Fern loved sleeping like every other teenager did. Sleep just let her get away from everything in the world. Because try as she might, she attempted to ignore everything and everyone but that didn't seem to work. Some people just didn't understand the phrase, "Leave me alone or I'll break your arm." People were just too clingy these days and they were starting to affect her, and frankly she didn't like it. She actually had a few (which was technically two) friends. She didn't like them, but they're sweet personalities were starting to rub off on her. She didn't want to change. She wanted to stay the same way she was right now. It was better for everyone. For her.

Fern was currently having a dream, not a nightmare. It was rare she had a dreamless sleep, nonetheless a dream. This one had a happy memory of her and her dad going to get ice cream at the ice cream truck parked down the street. Her cousin, Karma, seemed to be placed into the dream even though she would've preferred it to be just her and her father. No matter, she was enjoying the dream. It seemed real to her and she wished it was real. She wished she was five again and her father was still alive. She wished her and Karma were still close like they used to be. But there was only one problem with that. She didn't like the old Fern. She didn't want the old Fern. The old Fern was sweet and put others first before herself. Old Fern had billions of friends and was actually nice to people. A part of her was terrified to go back to that again, but another part of her wanted to go back to that type of Fern.

It was sometime around the middle of the morning like ten or eleven, and she was still sleeping. Fern knew she had training this morning. She just simply didn't feel like going. No one dared to bother her. There wasn't a brave enough soul to bother the daughter of Nemesis. She wanted it that way. Hell, she liked it that way. She was tired from the night before. She had stayed up late in the forest taking pictures of the night sky and surrounded by her own thoughts. It was peaceful until she remembered what had killed Kalina. It had immediately killed the mood of wanting to take pictures and went back to her cabin. She wasn't afraid of it; Fern Daniels wasn't afraid of anything. It was just her instincts telling her she shouldn't have been there at that time. So she had decided to follow her instincts and leave. It didn't matter to her considering she had taken some great pictures and she was safe. She was enjoying her sleep of pink lemonade ice cream with gummy bears and playing with the puppies in the park down the road with Karma and her father without being bothered.

'CAUSE DARLING I'M A NIGHTMARE
dressed like a daydream

They won't stop whispering. Raziel peered at them over Kali's diary. Two boys in Greek armor lingered by the doorframe. Their backs were turned but their voices were much louder than necessary, given the fact that they were already hissing at each other. Some snatches of conversation she could catch. They were definitely arguing because Raz could hear clearer with each passing sentence.

"...you do it, I don't want my head bitten off!"

"Jesus, she's just a girl!"

"Well why don't you go in and get her?"

The bickering continued. Scowling, Raziel returned to the diary. The voices were still too darn loud. Her brow twitched every now and then, and her grip on the old book tightened. What she wouldn't give to burn these insensitive idiots to a crisp! Taking deep breaths, Raziel lowered the book and flexed her fingers. If she didn't get a grip on herself, she was going to set her half-sister's diary on fire. Possibly the Hera cabin too. Raziel tried to calm down - she even started counting under her breath. It was a futile attempt. What she needed were a pair of soundproof headphones. Unfortunately, her last pair got fried because of her lost temper. She regretted putting off replacing them, because these darned campers won't shut up.

"What in the name of Hades is your damned problem?" Raziel finally snapped, slamming the diary on her bunk.

The two boys whipped around, white-faced. Raziel glared at them both, flames fueling her anger, and it took almost all her willpower not to strangle the answer out. "Well?"

One of the boys elbowed his friend on the ribs and backed away a few steps. His friend's face was already drained of color. "W-We were just... Uh... Chiron - he wanted Fern Daniels for training and - and" - he gulped - "she's still in bed."

"So?"

"S-She's asleep."

"That's your problem? What, is she going to turn into an empousa if you wake her up?"

That shut the kid up. He shoved his companion to the other room, but said companion shot both arms out to grip the doorframe and stopped himself from taking another step. Raziel watched them take turns pushing each other before she exhaled sharply and rose to her feet. "Move over," she seethed, hauling both boys out by their collars and striding into the room.

Sure enough, the only occupied bunk belonged to Fern Daniels. Raziel never met her but she had seen her around a couple of times, being cabinmates. What she didn't get was how the boys were too scared to do the simple task of waking her up. Raziel stared at the girl tangled in the covers. Who was this girl to have induced that kind of fear? Time to find out.

"Wake up," Raziel ordered, giving the covers a harsh tug and pulling them off Fern entirely. "I swear to the gods if you're not up in the next five seconds I'll roast your ass off. One."

Fern was enjoying a great sleep that she rarely got without being interrupted. She heard voices every now and then that were somehow incorporated into her dream. She blocked them, not paying much attention to them. She had learned to do that over the years when she had first started living in the busy cabin. She hated it, but there wasn't much she could do about it. She heard two boys and a girl arguing, how much she wished to see that argument. But she didn't want to interrupt the dream she was having. That was more important than a petty argument and no one seemed to bother her. She had made sure of that the last time someone had interrupted a good dream of hers.

A few minutes later, a girl yelled at Fern to wake up. She ignored that and how the girl pulled off her cover. She didn't it anyway, and she couldn't have cared less. It changed when the girl threatened her. She wanted to laugh at the girl. No one threatened Fern Daniels. By the time the girl counted to two, she was out of bed with her dagger out. "Thank you, but I know how to count to five." She said before rolling her eyes. Her hair was standing up in the weirdest places, and her clothes were disheveled. That didn't matter though. That didn't stop her from teaching a girl to not interrupt her sleep. "What the hell's your problem? I don't even know who the hell you are, and to be honest I don't give a crap." She said before studying the girl. She had seen her around the cabin, but never paid much attention to her. Fern didn't pay much attention to anyone, but herself. She knew her name, Raziel, but that was it. She looked similar to the old Hera cabin leader, but Fern couldn't so sure.

Fern glanced at the two boys in the corner who were standing there awkwardly not wanting to look at the two girls. "Too scared to wake me up yourself?" She asked with a smirk. "If you don't mind, which I really don't care if you do, I'm going back to bed. And you can go tell Chiron that too." She said bit loudly and dramatically. She quickly glanced from the two boys to the girl before laying down in her own bunk and pulling the covers up.

'CAUSE DARLING I'M A NIGHTMARE
dressed like a daydream

Raziel took a step back as she caught a flash of silver. Seriously? A dagger? How intimidating... not. Her eyebrows slightly furrowed, Raziel stared at Fern, surprised at how she moved and talked like that after just waking up. She took the wake-up call better than Raz would have if she were in her position. If it were Raz, her words would be no more than hisses and incoherent mumbles, and the person waking her up would end up in second-degree burns. Fern proceeded to berate her, then the two boys, and all Raz kept wondering was if the girl just feigned being asleep the past few minutes.

Still, it made quite a nice change. Raziel didn't remember the last time anyone talked to her like that. Fern's snarky reply made something stir inside her, and something other than anger pulsed through Raz's veins. It was an impulse that Raz couldn't help - she had to rise to the challenge.

"What a drama queen." She threw the cowering boys an incredulous look. "This is what you were afraid of? Seriously?" Sighing, Raziel turned back to Fern. She pasted a sugary sweet smile on her face and did a little curtsy to match. "My apologies, Princess. I forgot we had to cater to each and every one of your wishes. We shall now leave you to your sleep." But, instead of leaving, Raziel drew closer and caught hold of Fern's blanket. "Not."

In a swift movement, she tugged the covers off, this time harder than before. The bundle of cloth fell to the floor. Raziel's sweet smile twisted into a scowl. "Let me just remind you, Princess. You are in camp. I don't give a shit if you're bleeding royalty in the mortal world but in here, you're one of us. Quit acting like you own the place. You're just a demigod like them."

She jerked her head to the boys at the door. They looked ready to run. Wimps.

Raziel never would have imagined herself in this situation - lecturing some camper about attitude. Who was she to even give that kind of lecture? She sighed, more exasperated than ever. She just wanted to get back to her reading. Without waiting for a reply, Raziel turned on her heel, ready to leave. The boys better run at this point - Raziel was still furious, and a furious daughter of Hyperion wasn't someone to mess with.

Fern wasn't really paying attention to what the girl was saying, and she didn't care. She tried, more like attempted, to go back to sleep, but couldn't because the girl wouldn't stop rambling. Whatever she was saying went through one ear and out the other. It was when she pulled the covers off that made her blood boil. Her eyes widened in anger before she got up in less than a few seconds. She was pissed off now, maybe even beyond that. But something made her wish this would turn into a fight. She had been dying for a fight for awhile, but no one was brave enough to step up to the daughter of Nemesis. All the other campers had powers, but somehow she had always made her way around them. She grabbed her dagger that was on the ground now and threw it at the two boys. It landed just on top of one of their heads, if he wouldn't just stood on his tip toes it would've reach his head. The two boys backed up a few more feet their faces having fear written all over it. Fern turned back to the girl crossing her arms over her chest. "Like them huh?" She glanced at two boys who looked prepared to run. She rolled her eyes. "Yes because I look like two scared wimps who can't stand up to a sixteen year old girl. But what makes you so special? Just because you can pull some covers off of me and pretend to act tough that means you could do whatever the hell you want?" She said before leaning in towards the girl. "I could make your worst nightmares a reality." She said, her voice as deadly as venom.

Fern watched as the girl walked away, and she being the cocky girl she was, smiled. She won and she was happy she could finally do whatever the hell she wanted to now. She certainly wasn't going back to bed now. She couldn't with her nerves on edge and her blood boiling already. She walked up to the two boys and grabbed her dagger which had made an indent in the wall. The two boys backed away even more practically at the door now. She rolled her eyes before making her way back to her bed. She glanced at the girl before rolling her eyes at her too.

'CAUSE DARLING I'M A NIGHTMARE
dressed like a daydream

The same flash of silver from earlier whizzed past her ear, and Raziel's eyes snapped to the dagger embedded an inch above one of the boy's heads. She stopped walking, impressed beyond her will, but the moment faded when Fern made her threat. Raziel laughed. And it wasn't just a giggle - the sound rang loud and high, dripping of thinly-veiled sarcasm. Smiling sweetly once more, she faced Fern.

"You don't have to do that, sweetie. My nightmares are my reality."

Fern had done it now. Whatever was left of Raziel's desire to read vanished. Her pulse raced so hard that it pounded on her head. Raziel could feel the heat building - maybe everyone in the room could, now that she did. Even if they didn't, they could definitely see the small flames dancing around her hand, her neck, and the rest of her exposed skin. They were not enough to harm, but they were enough to show that their wielder's temper flared past its tolerable point. Raziel closed the distance between her and Fern, stopping inches from the latter's face. She was so close that Fern may already feel the full force of the heat she emanated in waves. "And, for the record, I am not just acting tough."

Raziel's hand flared up, engulfed entirely in flames, and it shot out to seize Fern's wrist in an iron-clad grip - an effort to prevent her from using the dagger she held and inflict quite a bit of damage. Or a lot.

Raziel wasn't afraid of nightmares because she was already living one. She wasn't afraid of pain, of even death - at this point in her life, a part of her already welcomed it.

Fern rolled her eyes as the girl laughed. She could've sworn one of the boys winced at it. She glanced at them, and the two boys were practically hugging each other for protection. She laughed at the sight of them. Cowards, She thought. Why the hell are they even still here? They at least have some guts to stay. She would have preferred that they stayed to have more of an audience. It was hilarious to see them scared of the two girls just yelling. She was just waiting for the fight, and she knew it was going to come. She could tell from the girl's façade that Fern was making her blood boil, and all that Fern did was smile maliciously. She enjoyed the sigh of pushing someone's button way too far.

Fern could feel the room heating up to a warmer temperature. It was bizarre considering the Her cabin was almost always cold all the time. She glanced at the other girl to see flames on her. That was all she needed to find out who she was. Raziel, daughter of Hyperion. Fern had heard of her a few times, but never actually met her face to face. She was the sister of the dead Hera cabin leader, Kalina. Kalina had been a great cabin leader even if she was too peppy for her type. The new one was annoying as hell even if she had never met her just yet. She watched her from a distance at time and Fern already hated her, and that said something. She was in the middle of thinking of a plan when Raziel grabbed her hand that was in flames. It sent a hot, searing pain up her arm that she would probably never forget. She thought of something fast to say. "Would Kalina approve of this?" As soon as the words came out of her mouth, she knew she hit a weak spot. With a smirk on her face, Fern pushed the girl with her free hand before backing away.

She threw her dagger at the two boys again which made them burst out of the cabin in a full run. Fern ran to grab her dagger again and walked back to where Raziel was, still standing a few feet away from her incase she attacked her again. Her hand still stung from the flames, but it was dulled out by something else inside of her. Revenge, a feeling she got too often, but never this strong before. "I can tell you don't like the new Hera cabin leader." She said choosing her words carefully. "I don't either. So perhaps we could get some revenge?" She said with the same smirk she gave Raziel only a few moments ago. Fern didn't know exactly why she was getting revenge on the new Hera cabin leader, but it didn't matter. It was probably a dumb idea, and Raziel would probably attack her again. But she was a good ally to have and she reminded her of herself in some ways.

'CAUSE DARLING I'M A NIGHTMARE
dressed like a daydream

The effect of the question was instantaneous - Raziel loosened her grip and allowed Fern to push her away. The seemingly innocent question was a bitter reminder. Still livid, Raziel spoke in the most caustic tone she could manage. "It's not like she's here to care."

Letting her hand fall back to her side, Raziel sucked in a few deep breaths. It worked to calm herself but only slightly. While the flames had already vanished, Raziel was still on edge. The slightest push could send her spiraling down a fiery vortex, and she may even take the cabin down with her. Kalina wouldn't be here to actually stop it. The thought made Raz huff. Fern just had to bring that up, hadn't she? Although Raziel wasn't usually miffed with the mention of Kali's name, Kalina just had to die and make herself a sore topic for her demititan sister.

Something else piqued Raziel's interest though. She hardly realized the boys' absence; about time they bolted, anyway. Her attention solely on Fern, Raziel raised her eyebrows and crossed her arms. The girl did have a point. Serena what's-her-name the new cabin leader was a giant pain in the ass, and Raziel knew it from experience. She had been the most uncooperative in the search team, like she didn't want to be there in the first place. Not a very promising trait for a cabin leader. At that point, Raziel resolved to keep an eye on Serena. Something wasn't right about her. Now, Raz realized that she might not be the only one feeling that way.

Fern's suggestion was a good opportunity... but that's the thing. It came from Fern.

Raziel's eyes formed unnerving slits as she regarded her. For one, the girl's smirk annoyed her, mainly because it reminded her of herself at times. However, she couldn't deny she was interested in what Fern had to say, not to mention a tad perplexed. "Who does? Haven't even heard of her until she got the position," she said, a cutting edge to her voice. "What's with the change of heart? Weren't you just pissed that I woke you up?"

Raziel couldn't help but exercise caution as she tread these waters. From what she could see, she and Fern clashed - they were similar in more ways than one. And that alone was enough reason to be wary.

Fern had been sure that the question would make Raziel pause, and it did. Watching her, made Fern feel a bit bad. Maybe she gone a bit too far. She wanted to apologize, but something told her not to. The other girl had practically burned her and that was the only thing that would probably make her stop.

Fern watched as Raziel took a few deep breaths before letting the hand holding her dagger drop to her side. "Um sorry about that. Guess I went a little too far." She apologized. She felt bad for the other girl because it reminded her of when her own father died. No one had been there to comfort her and everyone had been oblivious to the fact that she had obviously been depressed. There wasn't much she could do about it, and that was when the change happened. She went from the sweet Fern who put others first to the terrifying rude Fern who would do anything to get you to leave her alone. "It sucks. I know, I remember that feeling." She admitted to Raziel.

The new Hera cabin leader had left Fern suspicious of her. There was something about her that made Fern's insides twist like she couldn't be trusted. She questioned whether the new leader was part of Kronos' Army, but she had been part of the search teams. She didn't know how the cabin leader acted though, she could've been an exact replica of Kalina for all she knew. Raziel had been part of her team and got to experience her first hand, but by the way she acted when she mentioned the new cabin leader, Fern knew she hated her. She didn't blame her. Raziel was right though; she had never seen the new cabin leader around the Hera cabin. She had been at camp for awhile now and knew practically everyone in the cabin except for her. Fern didn't even know her name which just made it odd. She shrugged. "It's time I got up anyway." She responded lamely before adding, "And you're a bit like me in some ways. Just imagine us as cabin leader instead of that other one." She said the last part with a disgusted look on her face before scrunching up her nose. Fern could only imagine them as cabin leaders instead of the new one. She would've already made some changes, good ones too. She realized she would have to be nice to people if she ever was going to become cabin leader, but it was worth it to be cabin leader instead of the new one.

'CAUSE DARLING I'M A NIGHTMARE
dressed like a daydream

Raziel did nothing to acknowledge Fern's apology. She didn't even know if the girl was being sincere. For all she knew, she could just be playing the strings to get Raz to join her cause. The thought made the muscles in Raziel's jaw tense, and it grew more rigid as Fern made her vague suggestion - well, Raz wasn't sure if she meant it as an expression('even we could do so much better than her') or a literal suggestion ('let's usurp the throne'). She assumed the latter. Let's face it, the idea was somewhat hilarious... if not horrifying.

Politics. Camp politics. Oh how Raziel hated it. Her face betrayed no emotion as she considered Fern, her glare unwavering. Questions raced through her mind but she remained silent and cold. Was Fern that interested in the position? Why involve Raziel, then? Fern had done a perfectly fine job scaring the two boys into submission even without Raz's help. It wasn't the most ideal trait for a potential cabin leader but honestly? Fern Daniels would be much more preferable to Serena what's-her-name. But fitting Raziel into the equation... well, the extra power would be nice. Unfortunately it came with this thing called responsibility. Raziel let out a dry guffaw. Hell no.

Besides that, Raziel had never been the type to trust everyone at sight, especially those who reminded her of herself. Her frown seemed permanently etched on her face; at this rate, Raz's chances of smiling were a lot slimmer than winning the lottery. She hmphed at Fern, her arms still crossed. "Are you suggesting that we take the position? Together? Politics never suited me," she said airily. "If you want to challenge her, then fine. Go right ahead. But looking after underage brats isn't my cup of tea."

Right after she said it, the idea struck her like lightning: the temptation of power dangled right in front of her eyes, and Raziel found a part of her yearning, even for just a little bit... She saw the perks, the privileges, the status. It was a terrifying prospect, Raziel Swift being cabin leader, but damn was it desirable. For Raz, anyway. She could boss everyone around with good reason. Okay, so it wasn't quite a good reason, but damn - a hungry look flickered across Raz's face as her eyes softened for a moment...

But she thought of Kalina, ex-cabin leader, and realized that she could never be the leader her half-sister was. Then she thought of Serena, who wouldn't even be half of what Kali had been, not even a quarter.

"On second thought, let's say I'm considering your offer," Raziel mused, slowly flicking her wrist in what she hoped to be a nonchalant manner. "If you're wanting revenge on our current cabin leader, count me in. But if you're thinking of taking a more... complex route that involves becoming cabin leaders ourselves, well let's see. Is that what you're getting at?"

Fern watched as the other girl considered her offer. She didn't care if she declined or accepted, she could always find someone else to help her (someone she hadn't scared the living daylights out of yet). Something about it just seemed powerful to her. Fern Daniels, Hera cabin leader. She would be able to handle the amount of campers in the cabin, but there was one thing she didn't like about the position. She had to be nice to people, something she didn't enjoy. But it was worth it to replace that other cabin leader. It was weird though considering Fern had never met the cabin leader only seen her from afar. People said not to judge a book by it's cover, but it was something she had learned to do to see what someone was like without getting too close. The cabin leader radiated power, but the wrong kind of power. She couldn't put her finger on it about what the girl wanted, but she wouldn't be surprised if she happened to take over camp. Fern wouldn't let that happen, she would have to be dead to let that happen.

Fern watched Raziel with careful eyes as she told her response. "Okay, fine with me." She said shrugging it off. She started considering a few people here and there, but none of them seemed to spark her interest. It didn't matter, she could always do it by herself which she certainly didn't mind. She already had a few ideas in her head about getting to know the cabin leader more, learn her strengths and weaknesses. It couldn't be that hard, for Fern at least anyway. She was used to it by now.

Fern grabbed her hairbrush and quickly ran it though her hair a few times in thought. After she finished, she grabbed a pencil and a notepad to her bunk. She quickly started jabbing notes here and there before she remembered Raziel was still there. She glanced up at her. "You can go back to whatever you were doing." She said not paying much attention to her as she wrote down more sloppy notes. She certainly wasn't going to training anytime soon. It wasn't like she needed it, she practically went to the arena everyday.

Fern looked back up at the other girl as she started talking again. "Now you want to join me? And yes that's exactly what I'm getting at." She said with a smirk. She considered an idea before standing back up with her notepad in her right hand and her pencil in the other. "You've met her before right?" She asked as she continued thinking.

'CAUSE DARLING I'M A NIGHTMARE
dressed like a daydream

Each one of Fern's smirks threw Raziel off. The mere gesture irked her, and she got the burning desire to knock it off her face. Was this how people felt like when she gave them the very same smirk? Raziel clicked her tongue disapprovingly. She didn't want to have to get used to this feeling because it was driving her nuts. Maybe it was primal instinct but Raziel was, to some extent, competitive. Like a lion defending its territory, Raz was protective of what she viewed as her... thing, for lack of a better term. Why, she even disliked her half-sister Kali at first, for sharing the same bloodline...

"I said I'm considering it. Because honestly? Right now, I'm not very keen on joining you," she said bluntly, still too mad to care if her words stung - they probably didn't, because Fern obviously wasn't the sensitive-type. Something about Fern didn't put her at ease, or perhaps it was the same feeling she got from everyone now that she was so distrustful. Maybe it was the similarities between her and the other girl. Maybe Raziel just wasn't used to being offered anything, especially deals involving power. She eyed Fern's pen and notebook, curiosity almost peeking out from her hardened features, but Raz stubbornly kept her questions to herself. "I have, once. There's not much to say. Just that she's probably kissed a lot of asses to get her position because her oh-so-sweet personality doesn't cut it."

The thought of the current cabin leader did nothing to improve Raziel's mood. If anything, it made it worse. Raziel took another deep breath, repeating a mantra in her head ('don't burn anything, don't burn the cabin down'). Her anger wasn't quick to fade and, despite the temptation earlier, Raziel knew herself well enough to know that she wasn't in a state to make any decisions. And that a little push could still send her into a fiery rampage. Raziel huffed, her thoughts turning into low incoherent mutters and grumbles. When was this anger going to fade?

Raziel walked briskly towards the door, her breaths coming in quick. She honestly didn't know if she could spend another second inside that room without spontaneously combusting. Besides, the little encounter gave her a lot of things to think about. Decisions to be made, consequences to be weighed... Raz had a long day ahead of her, and if she was lucky, she would make it through without setting anything on fire.

Pausing by the doorframe, Raziel threw Fern a look over her shoulder. A sweet smile played on Raz's lips, but her next words oozed sarcasm. "It was so nice meeting you, Fern Daniels. Enjoy your... note-taking."
