Rose waddled down the aisle of the library, barely able to peer over the giant, tedious stack of books she carried. Just as she reached the tables, her foot caught on something on the ground, and she fell forward onto the table, spilling her books everywhere. Muttering a couple of swears, she rubbed her head, which she had hit on the corner of the table. Looking around, she was glad that nobody had seemed to see the fall, but she wished someone would come help her as she collected her books.

Livia Malcolm

Livia hadn't been in the library in a long time. It saddened her to know this, the library had been one of her favorite places back in the day. That time had seemed like a lifetime ago - Livia had lived a million years of sadness in the past year and a half. The library felt intimidating to Livia and she wished for the old Liv to come back - the Liv who wasn't afraid of anyone, the Liv that stood up to bullies and fought her own battles. The Liv that didn't kill people.

But if there was one thing that Livia was still good at, it was lying and hiding. So she put on a smile, straightened her camp baseball cap, and pushed open the doors of the library. Livia walked around for a little bit, taking a book from the cart and pretending to be interested, when she noticed a girl struggling to pick up books. Walking silently over to the girl, she stared at her for several seconds. "Do you need some help?" Liv finally asked, making no move to help the girl further than her words.

"We don't decide who lives and dies. Not down here."

Rose looked up at the girl who offered to help her, seeing through the empty promise. Though she did want the attention, she declined because she was a stubborn little buttface. "No," she said. "I'm fine." She started grabbing her books even faster to evade the awkward situation, only ending up being clumsier.

Rose's cheeks heated up. I am such an embarrassment, she thought. She didn't even know if the girl had gone away, and gods forshame she look up to check. She just continued to stack up her tower of books. Why on Earth did I grab so many books in the first place? Was it just that necessary?

It totally was. Anyone who paid any attention to Rose at all--and almost nobody did--would know that she had to have all the books. The moment she'd set foot in the library, she turned into a book-hogging hurricane. If she were more extroverted, she might be best friends with the librarian at this point. But alas, that was not her personality nor demeanor. Maybe in another life she could have so many friends, and she could be popular. Maybe in another life she wouldn't be in danger every time she set foot off the campground.

Yeah, she'd like that life.

Livia Malcolm

Liv shrugged, wondering why the girl had refused help when she was obviously just making a fool of herself. Unfortunately, she wasn't going to make a big deal out of it, so she just tossed the matter aside in her brain. It wasn't her responsibility to fix everything, but the girl did look like she needed help and at least Liv should do her part. Torn, Livia waited for several minutes, until noticing that the girl had just managed to make a bigger mess. Normally, Liv would have scolded her, but she decided that she was beyond that and helped pick up a book. "You're fine?" Liv looked into the girl's eyes as she handed her another book.

Livia normally would have left by this point, forgetting to help the girl. But something about the younger girl reminded her of a younger version of Quell. She even looked a little like him, probably a daughter of Athena as well.  And she had done all she could to help her brother - Quell was far beyond helping. But this little girl was fresh and innocent and reminded Liv of the child Quell once had been. So she stayed. "You're a daughter of Athena aren't you?" Liv asked, cocking her head to the side. "I'm Liv."

Rose looked up. The girl was talking to her again--Liv, she said her name was. Rose's cheeks usually had a slight tinge of pink to them, but she could feel them turning a more violent shade of red.

"Rose," she said, introducing herself. Then, although it was unlike her, she spoke again, even if it was rather briefly. Suppose she thought that this girl could be different. Maybe she was rather pretty, but not all pretty people were from the Aphrodite family--a cabin that Rose had an unfriendly disposition towards. She had reason, of course, for having this opinion, but to sum it up, she would just rather not socialize with them. "Yeah. I'm an Athena kid. What about you?"

Livia Malcolm

Liv stared at the girl, smiling as she introduced herself. She restrained herself from commenting on the girl’s red cheeks, as she could find several words to say about them - Why be embarrassed about your own name? Liv found herself wondering if the girl had something to hide, although she knew she was over analyzing. This time it was herself that was the source of embarrassment and although she managed to hide it best she could, it was still written across her face, as most of Livia’s emotions tended to be. However, shame wasn’t written across Liv’s face, despite the pit in the bottom of her stomach. It was stupid that she was feeling embarrassment - that she was showing it. Hadn’t she learned anything? Wasn’t she different from the old Liv? Livia could never go back to the person she had been, but she thought she had changed so much. Perhaps she had been wrong this entire time.

”Ω, μητέρα και γκρι μάτια των παιδιών της.” Liv said, rolling her eyes. She chose to speak in the ancient Greek that came so naturally to her, instead of  regular English. It was the first time that Liv had spoken Greek in several months, and she felt rusty, but quickly picked up her language until her speech patterns were just short of a native speaker. As if Livia knew what that sounded like - they were all dead. ”Hello sister.” Liv said, giving a small smile, not to sound so formal.

Rose read the expression written all over Liv's face. It was one she knew well: embarrassment. Poorly concealed embarrassment, at that. Why on Earth is she embarrassed? It's not like she was the one who dropped all these books, she thought, remembering the mess of books that still lay at her feet. In an act of swiftness, she gathered up the rest of her books and rose to her feet.

"Oh!" she exclaimed, trying to sound less awkward than she felt. "Sorry I didn't recognize you. I guess I just spend so much time out of the cabin, I don't even know my own siblings. Το βλέπω στα μάτια σου τώρα."

Rose didn't typically speak in Greek, as she preferred her books to be in English, her first language, but she was fluent enough. Sometimes her words would come out wacky. It was only a slip of the tongue, or the fact that she didn't use Greek as often as other half-bloods might. Usually, there wasn't a problem.
