"Mom was always pretty good. When I was in my tweens, I kind of figured out that she wasn't great parenting material, but she did her best and that's all that matters to me. We had a decent house, decent clothes, and decent food. I'm incredibly thankful for her being supportive about just everything I did. She's this kind, accepting woman who I am so lucky to call my mother."
Ellie Gray was a punk and a drug addict when she met Chronos at the ripe age of 22. She had been raised quite well, in an average middle class home where there was always enough money to get by. She rebelled against her family and it led her down an awful path. She met some man in a bar one evening, and what started out as a one night stand became a incredibly deep and meaningful relationship, thanks to the little bump Ellie had acquired. Chronos stayed until Shaila was around one and half. Ellie was crushed by his sudden abandonment. Over the years she did her best to raise Shaila on her own. Eventually she slipped back into old habits and began to drink once again. She still played the role of an excellent mother, supporting Shaila through everything.Brief History:
"I'm about as interesting as a potato. My life story lacks thrill and excitement, so you've been warned. I never felt that I had major problems as a kid, but I suppose there were a few instances that weren't perfect. I'm sure it happens to everyone."
Shaila was born to Ellie and Chronos on a rainy, humid day in late June. The two parents had bickered about names for their baby girl, but hadn't come up with one firm choice. Ellie wanted her daughter to have a reasonably normal name, but Chronos shot all of her suggestions down a boring and common. They finally came to an agreement on the name Shaila. Chronos suggested it, explaining how he thought his daughter's eyes resembled the light, flowing blue of a river. That is how Shaila came to be Shaila.
Chronos's departure was a bad time for the Grays. Ellie couldn't handle raising a child alone. She was completely unprepared for motherhood, and had been counting on Chronos for help and guidance. He had been her anchor during the pregnancy. He'd always been calm and rational about everything. He knew what to do when things went wrong. And now that he was gone, Ellie was a mess.
Grandma Gray, who preferred the name Nana, came to her daughter's aid. For the first few years, she lived with them and helped with the care of Shaila and the house. She bought the groceries, did the laundry, and cleaned while Ellie worked in a health food store. Shaila was very close with her Nana by the time she was a toddler.
Shaila did not attend preschool, due to the fact that she never got along with children her own age. She much rather enjoyed reading with her Nana, watching Disney movies with her mother, or playing with their fluffily white dog, Totoro. She was a very shy child, which didn't seem to be particularly odd since she was so young. Her introvert tendencies were disregarded by her family.
When Shaila was sent of to Kindergarten, it didn't go well. She missed her Nana and her mom. She missed her carefree days as a toddler. She missed being able to stay up late some nights and sleep in on others. She despised her classmates as well. She was a very bright young girl, but she had been put into a class of kids who also had not attended preschool, but that hadn't been good for them.
The rest of Shaila's school life went on like that. She always was frustrated and annoyed by all of the people around her. She felt smarter than her teachers at times. She'd get sent to the principal's office for talking back frequently when she was in middle school. And though she had an okay group of friends, she was disliked by a lot of her classmates.
During eighth grade, Shae became more social, expanding her kind behavior that she normally would only practice around her friends to everyone. She lost a lot of her introvert qualities. She began hanging out with her friends in their town's center for hours everyday. She was loud and happy and perky.
When Shae turned fourteen, Chronos came to the small celebration that her mother and Nana held after dinner. Ellie didn't want him to come inside their house. When she answered the door she immediately slapped him. It was Nana who had to encourage Ellie to let Shae finally meet her father. Chronos came into their home and apologized. He told Shae he had never wanted to leave them like he had. He was so amazed by how much she had grown and changed, though her eyes were still that same River Blue.
Later in the night, Ellie demanded an explanation as to why he had left in the first place. Chronos decided to explain his situation. He told them that he was god, and he had duties to attend to and that was why he had left. Ellie just laughed and refused to believe him. Shae was more receptive to this new information. She asked him tons of questions. Eventually he explained that there was a camp that she could go to if she wanted, where other half bloods like her were trained.
Shae convinced her mother to let her attend Camp Half Blood that summer. She came back in September and told her mother how Chronos was not insane and that she was actually a demigod. Ellie was still reluctant to accept the information. She was extremely okay with being mad at Chronos for the rest of her life.
Shae now attends camp during her summers and other vacations. She hasn't told her friends about any of this aspect of her life. Her Nana moved out now that Shae was older, and her mother slipped back into drinking. She still struggles with her old habits. Shae still has movie night with her mother every Thursday night when she's home.Physical Appearance
"I'm not pretty. I'm lazy and grubby and disgusting. You honestly should just avoid looking at me. I'm sorry."
Many people have commented that Shae always appears to be hiding something. In a way, she always is. Her reluctance to speak with strangers shows even in her face. She looks like she's not only hiding something, but hiding herself. Her hair falls just at her narrow shoulders. Its colour has always been a deep, dark brown that closely resembles black. She has bangs that rest by her thick eyebrows. She usually sweeps them to one side to try to keep them out of her eyes. Her eyes are what gave Shae her name. They're close set and protruding, with a beautiful hazel eyes that seem to change color. When she was a child, they appeared River Blue, but now they resemble a more green colour. Typically they're surrounded by black eyeliner and mascara. She has an oblong nose and an oval face shape. Her lips a small but plump and she avoids lipstick. Her skin is fair, and could be classified as peachy. Shae is typically modest about her appearance, but she is a beautiful young woman.Fashion Style:
Shae isn't incredibly obsessed with what she wears. She sticks to very basic clothing, usually just a band t-shirt and jeans. She'll occasionally try something new with her outfits, but simple solid color shirts and shorts are her favorite thing to wear. As for jewelry, she wears practically none. She'll throw on a necklace occasionally, maybe some earrings so the holes don't close up. Shae does get very nervous about her appearance at times. So, while her style may seem pretty lax, she does care about what she's wearing.Playby:
Shae had a white Scottish terrier named Totoro when she was a child. Her mother adopted him when Shae was two. The dog sadly passed away when Shae had reached the age of fifteen. Her mother bought her a new dog for her sixteenth birthday. It's a fluffy dachshund that Shae named Watson. The dog resides in her mother's home in upstate New York. Shae has wanted to bring the little puppy to Camp Half Blood, but her mother has protested, claiming that the dog should stay at home so Shae has something to look forward to when she visits.Talents:
WIPYear-Round or Summer:
Shae for the past two years has been a summer camper. She would sometimes visit camp during her other vacations. As of right now, she is still a summer camper, but she is contemplating becoming a year round camper. Her mother is against the idea, although Shae has promised to visit during every holiday.Song:
