I've been feeling real good
came a long way from misunderstood

Emily smiled as she walked toward the beach. It was only a few minutes before midnight. She had no one to kiss when it was midnight, but she thought it would be fun to go to the party on the beach. There was going to be food, the only thing she wanted to go for. She wanted to make friends, but she knew she most likely wasn't. She had been lonely lately, but she was just staying in her cabin just drawing. She didn't want to talk to anyone because she was still afraid to go outside. The zombie apocalypse had scared the living daylights out of her. She was too scared to go outside and see corpses near Cabin one. She shook her head to get rid of the thoughts.

Emily shivered in the cold. She didn't dress warm enough, hoping the cold would numb the bad feelings. She hadn't worn anything special. She just wore a purple shirt with a gray scarf and a pair of jeans. She had a not very warm coat on and a some converse. She didn't feel like dressing nice tonight. It's not like she was going to see anyone. She sighed. She continued walking toward the beach. She could already see people there. She debated on whether she should just turn back and go back to her cabin, until she saw some people running toward the beach. She looked at her watched. There were seven minutes until midnight. She wasn't going to make it back to her cabin in time, so she might as well just go to the beach. She sighed and trudged toward the beach.

Emily gaped when she got to the beach. There were so many people there and there was food. Lots of it. She hadn't anything since the day before. She was too scared to leave the Mess Hall. A nymph came and gave her a can of soda. "Oh uh thank you." She said. It felt weird to be talking again. Emily popped open the soda and took a sip. Then the everyone started the countdown. She smiled. She had to at least join in.

"FIVE, FOUR, THREE, TWO-"

Everyone kissed whoever they wanted while Emily stood there, just watching everyone. She took a sip from her can and turned her head. She dropped her soda can and a hellhound lunged at her.

Tobias loved people, and parties, and parties with people. Especially nearly drunk people. The idea of getting completely smashed on new years wasn't exactly in his forte, so he was sober as could be. Instead, he walked around the couples and crowds, just watching. Sometimes that is more interesting than actually doing stupid things. And yes, Tobias would know stupid if and when he saw it.

A can of Pepsi in his hand, he walked around while the countdown began. He didn't count, he just watched. Couples were already in their stances, getting ready for 'one'. Did Tobias feel a little upset that he hadn't brought a girl to the beach? Yes. Did he think he needed one? No. His brown eyes flicked across the crowd, the countdown still going on, until he found someone that didn't have people looming around them. It was a girl, a girl he didn't know, but figured he could. Maybe she could be his unofficial new years kiss.

He was about to speak, the countdown to three, when he heard it. A growl. A splash of soda covered his tennis shoe, but he didn't have time to care. A pair of yellow eyes was staring the girl down, and as much of a jerk Tobias was, he couldn't let a frozen girl get hurt. Looping his arm around her waist, the demigod tugged at her frame and tugged her across the beach as the monster charged.

"You okay?" he asked, releasing her behind a tree. The beach was under attack behind them, the fireworks still going off. Tobias focused his eyes on her, trying to get her to look at him. He didn't have anything to defend himself with, but hoped that he could get himself, and maybe her out of danger.

Emily Didn't even notice her being tugged behind a tree. All she saw was her father. He was motioning for her to come toward him. "Dad?" She whispered. It felt weird to see his face. She hadn't slept in a few days so she couldn't get a flashback about her father, but that's all she saw right now. She saw other faces that she saw in the ZA. Tears started streaming down her face. She was seeing faces of people that were dead. Was she going to die? She knew she was going to die eventually, but she couldn't. She still had things she wanted to in life that she never got to do.

When she was finally behind the tree, did the faces go away. She looked a the boy. He did seem familiar, but she was sure she never met him. "I'm fine I think. What happened?" She asked. She looked around and saw the camp being attacked. Her beautiful camp was being attacked. It was making her angry. She saw a hellhound lunging at her and the boy. "Duck! She yelled, pushing him to the ground. The hellhound leaped over them but could smell Emily. Gods, do I hate being a daughter of Zeus, She thought. She quickly pressed a button on her necklace and took out her sword. With one swipe, she turned the monster to gold dust. "Need a weapon? I got plenty." She said and smirked.

Tobias' expression grew puzzled as the girl called out for her dad. Glancing around the area, he tried to block her view of the camp, just in case her came out of her daze. The sight of camp being attacked wasn't exactly a prime view. The yells of the injured filled his ears, making him wish that he had just left instead. It would've been easier, safer that way. "Camp's under attack," Tobias responded instantly.

It's strange how those words come so easily to a demigod, to admit that your home is being invaded, and to not be surprised. He almost didn't register the girl's voice, but did as he was told. Feeling dust skim his cheek, Tobias figured the girl just saved his life. At least they were even now.

Weapons, something that the demigod hated, and normally avoided. "Sure, what'd ya got?" Tobias asked with a smirk, standing up and surveying the area. The beach was the current target of the attackers, and if they left maybe they could reach safety. "Where do you think we should start heading?" he asked, trying to keep them out of sight.

"Well what weapon do you usually use?" She asked. She had gotten her necklace a few years ago from a Hephasteus kid. A necklace that had a button for every weapon. It was nice to have a weapon like that considering she was a daughter of a big three. She sighed. She wished she was a daughter of someone else. It would've been ten times easier. "Well, we should head to the Ares cabin, but personally I think we should make a quick stop to the Camp store and grab as much food and supplies as we can. I have a feeling this will be like another zombie apocalypse." She muttered under her breath. Hopefully it isn't because you'll probably just go mentally crazy, She thought. She shook her head to get rid of the thoughts. A hellhound came hurling toward them, but Emily had turned it to gold dust when it lunged at them. She grabbed the boy's wrist and started dragging him to the Camp store. She felt bad because she didn't even know the kid's name and he had save her life moments ago.

A few moments later, she had let go of him because they were at the camp store. "Grab as much as you can." She said already grabbing food and water bottles. There was no one there at the cash register so they wouldn't have to get into a fight with someone, she was thankful for that. Emily filled her pockets with batteries, water bottles, and food. "Are you ready?" She asked filling the amount of space she had left in her pockets.

Tobias wasn't sure about this girl, she seemed like a threat, at least the monsters considered her one. Maybe he shouldn't trust her, or be near her. Then again, she had saved his life, the girl couldn't be that bad; at least not yet. "A knife, or a dagger?" he suggested. Weapons weren't really something the boy trusted with himself, but they seemed all to necessary at this point.

His eyes immediately flicked up towards her face at the mention of 'zombies'. No. There would never be another tragedy such as that to befall on camp half blood. Tobias was terrified of the words, the meaning was another horror in itself. "This won't be," he muttered, about to say more when the girl began dragging him again. "You can let go of me!" He wasn't in the mood to be drug around camp by someone he didn't even know, or fully trust.

Rubbing his wrist as they entered the camp store, he began grabbing granola bars, fruit snacks, and water bottles. His hands were almost entirely full, along with his bulging pockets and the inside of his coat. "Yeah," Tobias replied quickly. The boy peered outside, before making a run for it to cabin five, until he noticed the circle of monsters around the cabin. "No, we can't go there," he muttered, completely turning around. "Follow me."

Tobias didn't really know where he was headed, but he hoped it would be a safe place for now. the camp store was safe, sure, but everyone would take refuge in the obvious places. His feet moved without much thinking, until they stopped in front of an old weapons shed. It was at the borders of camp, near the beach, but secluded in it's own way. The door creaked open as he entered, flicking on one of the flashlights he had grabbed.

Emily pressed a button on her necklace and a dagger appeared in her hand. "Here." She said tossing it to him. Hopefully, he wouldn't cut his hand when he caught it. She didn't need that to happen right now. Dad, could you really help us right now? Please? She prayed to him. She just wanted all the attacks to end. She just wanted her camp to be safe. She sighed. That would probably never happen.

Emily rolled her eyes and reluctantly let go of him when they were at the camp store. She started grabbing things off the shelves like batteries, water bottles, and granola bars. She figured they wouldn't need much if they were going to spend a few days in the Ares cabin. They had pretty much everything. She just hoped camp would be able to survive this much. They had survived the ZA so they could survive this right? She shook her head to get rid of the thoughts. She had to focus on her current task.

Emily cursed in French when she saw the Ares cabin surrounded by monsters. Where were they supposed to go now? Another cabin? Emily followed the boy. She didn't have any more good ideas. So she might as well go with him. When they had reached a shack, she looked back at him. "The old weapon shack! I totally forgot about it. What a great idea!" She said and hugged him. She quickly went inside. She wasn't sure if it would help with her being a daughter of Zeus. She sighed. She went inside and sat in the corner of the dark shack.

Tobias grinned as she praised him for his find. He had thought it was clever thinking on his part, but hearing someone else affirm his thoughts just made him even prouder of it. The hug, however, made his cheeks turn red as he stood still without acknowledging it. "We should be safe here, at least for tonight," he told her, shutting the door behind them.

Their flashlights were their only source of light, but Tobias knew that a lot of light could be an obvious signal for monsters. He flicked his off, leaving only the moonlight to show the insides of the shed. Vines covered the windows, door, and the roof, making it almost invisible at night. The inside of it wasn't much either, due to the fact that it had been emptied a while ago. A few boxes remained, with unknown contents inside of them. However, the son of Hermes wasn't feeling curious today. It was probably around one in the morning, he was ready to sleep.

Sleep. He cast his gaze over to the girl, noticing the lack of real sleeping area. Tobias had his coat, still filled with supplies, but that wasn't exactly enough to keep people warm in the middle of winter. "I'll check these boxes for more supplies," he told her softly. Kneeling down, the demigod slowly opened the cases, as if the smallest noise would erupt into a horde of monsters. There were five boxes, of similar height but different sizes. The first two were filled with rusted weapons, and of no use to him.

The next was filled with targets, fluffy targets. A grin lit up the boy's face as he tossed the girl one of the three-foot long stuffed targets. "Here, uh -" Tobias faltered. He didn't know her name. "What's your name, steel?" he asked, coming up with a nickname for her already. The dagger she had given him was strapped at his side, and maybe the nickname would remind him of the favor she had done for him. The girl was like a walking steel-smith, plus the look in her eyes sometimes made Tobias want to freeze on the spot. It fit; at least to him.

Emily noticed his cheeks turned red. She smiled a small smile. She nodded to him when he said they should stay here for the night. She had still remembered this shack. She had always seen it, but ignored it. She had just waved it off thinking it was unimportant. It was still the same like that right now. But it's not like she went anywhere really. She stayed in her cabin never going out. To come to think of it, she didn't have that many friends. She didn't care right now because she could always make friends later.

Emily was totally fine when he turned off the flashlight. She was used to the dark when she used to spray paint the walls of the amphitheater. She bit back a smile. She remembered those days. She hadn't done that in awhile. She promised herself she would spray paint again when this was all over. Her cans were somewhere in the back of her closet. She would just have to search them. The zombie could've ruined them since she hadn't used them since before the apocalypse. She sighed. She had been using those since she joined camp. The best part about joining camp was that she never got in big trouble for spray painting on the walls of the amphitheater.

Emily just wanted to know the time. It was early in the morning, but she wasn't getting sleepy at all. She was used to staying up late. She mostly just slept in the middle of the day. She picked up a box and opened it. "You can sleep if you want. I can keep watch." She said shrugging. She didn't mind taking watch, but she preferred if he stayed awake with her. She didn't like being alone.

She looked through the box on the floor next to her only to find weapons. They were in decent condition, but she could tell they weren't used in awhile. Se didn't think anyone used this shack anyone. She looked back up at the boy and smiled. It felt nice to smile again. "Emily, daughter of um.. Zeus." She said looking back down at the box.

Tobias set the covers back on some of the boxes, taking anything that could provide warmth out of them. There wasn't much, just an old banner that could provide something, maybe. Once the adrenaline stopped running through his veins he would feel the cold sinking in. He knew it was coming, it was just a matter of time. He also knew that he might not be able to provide all of the heat he needed, after all, the shed seemed to have paper walls.

Blinking the sleep out of his eyes, he shook his head. "Nah, I'll stay up too," Tobias muttered softly. He had to convince himself that sleep wasn't an option, not matter how nice it seemed. Maybe if they stayed up all night they could sleep during the day. Or move somewhere warmer, and safer.

At the mention of her name, he perked up and glanced over at her. "Emily?" the demigod repeated, crinkling his nose as he said it. "I think Steel fits you better," he commented with a cheeky grin. Joking was in his nature, even if he was facing a most likely dangerous daughter of Zeus. Running a hand through his hair, he exhaled and sat himself up on one of the boxes.

"I'm Tobias, son of Hermes," he said proudly, a grin still plastered on his face. He kept his chocolate eyes sealed on her, looking for any reaction from her. Tobias could tell she was under stress, or something, because she wasn't acting like an average teenager. Then again, no one really did around here. "Are you -uh, cold?" he asked, rubbing his hands together rapidly.

Emily continued looking through her box, only to find old weapons. She did find a white banner that was about. It does look familiar. All well, She thought to herself. She continued looking, when the thought hit her Dad. That's what it reminded her of. The banner remind her of her dad's white doctor's jacket. She tried to dismiss the thought, but the flashback beat her to it. The flashback of her father's death always came when she thought of her dad. No good memories or thoughts came. Only bad ones. The flashback had always ended with her crying or throwing something. It kept replaying through out her mind like a broken record, over and over again. A tear quickly streamed down her cheek, but wiped it away before the boy could see.

She brightened up when he said he'd stay up. At least she wouldn't be left alone with the flashback. It did make her feel a bit better, but she just wished it would leave. Leave forever. She knew that was a bit too much to ask for, but that was the only thing she wanted right now. She sighed. She looked back up at the boy and put a fake smile on. "Are you sure?" She asked. She didn't want to deprive the boy of sleep.

Emily smiled. And for the first time in a few months, laughed. She hadn't laughed in awhile. I felt good, almost as good enough to smile, but even better. The laugh felt like something was still good inside of her. "Why the name?" She asked, her British accent evident. She returned to her box, looking through the rest of the contents.

"Hermes..." She mused. She hadn't talked to a Hermes kid in awhile. She had remembered hanging out with them when she had joined camp, pranking the Aphrodites, doing all the things she got in trouble for now. She found it quite funny that she sometimes did it now, but after the apocalypse, she had changed. She didn't do anything punishment worthy anymore. "I'm not cold. Are you?" She asked, tucking a piece of her blonde hair behind her ear.

Tobias didn't normally like silence, but this silence seemed filling and acceptable for the circumstances. Not everything could always be fun and games like he liked, unfortunately. He slid the dagger's smooth metal over his fingertips, wondering how it was possible to produce weapons from thin air. The girl must've been important, otherwise she wouldn't have been given such a gift. Maybe she just had friends in the forges. Either way, he knew she was something different.

Looking up, the demigod noticed Emily wiping a tear from her face. Normally, he would question the action and demand a response, but it wasn't the time. As much as Tobias hated the idea of maturing, he would have to eventually. Hopefully it didn't take a battle to force that responsibility upon him. "Yeah," he replied quickly, sliding the dagger back into it's hilt along his belt. "Besides, who needs sleep anyways?"' A smile flashed onto his face, but disappeared just as shortly as it arose.

Her laugh, however, made the boyish grin return once more as he joined into the laughter. Something told him that Emily didn't laugh very much, but on the bright side, it made her eyes light up a little bit. Tobias hoped he could keep her in high spirits while they continued to stay hidden. "I give people names all the time," he responded. "Plus, you've got this wicked steel weapon maker thing, right? he continued, motioning to his new weapon. "You're eyes are kind of that color, too." His last phrase was softer than the rest, his grin fading into a softer shade of Tobias.

Raising an eyebrow, he glanced over at Emily. He was always somewhat defensive when it came to people judging his father. In Tobias' mind, Hermes was someone to be reckoned with, and maybe even respected once in a long while. Sure, his sons and daughters weren't always the most productive, but they were loyal to him. "No, I'm not." Tobias reclined his position, so that he had his back against the wall. "Just making sure."

Emily smiled at the boy again. She hadn't smiled like this in awhile, where it was an actual smile not a fake one. A smile that she had to paste on her face to make it look like she was fine when she wasn't. She returned to the box in her lap, to get rid of the thoughts. She would eventually fall asleep, that's what she did most nights. She would finally go to sleep at around six o'clock in the morning. She'd sleep through the day, skipping breakfast and lunch. She would sometimes eat dinner depending on how she was feeling. She had actually gotten thinner from not eating much, but she didn't really seem to care about how she looked. It wasn't like anyone talked to her anyway. No one really visited her in the cabin, but she couldn't care less to be honest. She just wanted to be alone.

Emily continued looking through her box, not finding much. Just some old weapons and old bows. They wouldn't be much help, but she put the box to the side yawning already. She wondered what time it was and how the battle was doing. Was Camp losing or winning? Questions filled her mind spinning all around her. She was starting to feel a bit dizzy from all the questions. She actually felt kind of guilty for not helping with the battle. She was a daughter of Zeus, she should be helping out with the battle. She looked at Tobias and asked, "Do you think we should be helping with the battle?"

Emily smiled when she thought of her weapon. She had remembered receiving it along time ago, when she first joined camp. It took her awhile to get used to it, but she got the hang of it. That memory seemed so far away though, like it happened a thousand years ago. She could remember the Hephasteus kid explaining to her what it did and what the things it did. She still remembered the confused look on her face she gave him. It made her want to laugh out loud. She smiled at him again, a real smile. "Thanks. But it stinks that I doubt have a name for you." She said, grabbing another cardboard box.

She shuffled through her box, already getting bored. There wasn't much in the boxes, but kept her hands occupied. She glanced back up at Tobias and smiled. "Nothing wrong with your dad. It's just I used to hang out with the Hermes kids." She said, the memories flooding her mind. She still remembered pranking the Aphrodite's. The first time she had pranked them she had used stink bombs. Those were her favorite to use. She smiled remembering all the good time she had at Camp. If only she knew Camp wouldn't be safe from monsters forever.

Tobias noticed the girl's smile, and he couldn't help but smiling as well. Her smile, at least this version of smiles, could light up a whole room. He knew as well as anyone that there was certain layers of smiling or emotions that you only let out at specific times, it was safer that way. No one expected anything from you if you made sure you didn't care about them. Of course, he was an expert at not caring.

At the mention of the battle, the demigod simply shrugged. He was sure they were doing just fine, being demigods and such. He wasn't really that concerned about the other people, they would be fine, hopefully. While that may seem incredibly self-centered of him, the boy didn't honestly care. Tobias was just making sure he wasn't putting himself in the face of danger.

Watching the girl unpack some of the boxes, he sighed, placing his hands behind his head to stretch. He doubted anything else would be found inside the boxes, considering that they had found all they really needed. "I'm awesome like that, y'know Steel?" he said with a chuckle, turning his face to her.

At the mention of Hermes kids, Tobias simply nodded, still reclining against the wall lazily. "Getting bored yet?" he asked with a raised eyebrow. He let out another soft laugh before he went down on the floor to start making a 'bed' type of thing. Their makeshift pillows were used as a mattress and the banner was set over the top. "You can sleep, Steel."

Emily nodded her head when he shrugged. She still felt kind of bad that campers were dying outside and they were here. She couldn't have helped anyway, she would just attract more monsters. She shook her head, getting rid of the thoughts. She looked through the rest of the contents still finding nothing interesting. The same thing was in all the boxes so she didn't know why she was looking through all of them. When he asked if she was bored, she shrugged. She'd rather be doing something else, but it wasn't the worst thing in the world. She wasn't outside with the other campers.

When he said she could sleep, she looked up with curious blue eyes. It sounded like such a good thing to do right now. But she felt bad if she left the boy alone. She sighed. She really did want to sleep right now. "Are you sure?" She asked, already dozing off. The next thing she knew she was asleep.

Emily was in the hospital. She still remembered this dream. It wasn't the worst one out of all her dreams. She was in the hospital from a hellhound attack. The one that happened the day after her father died. She saw her mother in a chair watching her with careful eyes, while speaking to the nurse. She was free to go from the hospital. "Is that true?" She asked her mother when the nurse left. Her mother nodded her head. She had been in this hospital for days. She smiled, it was a different smile, not the smile she gave Tobias. I was a painful smile because she didn't want to see the house that her father bought. Her father. The word that she couldn't use now since hers was dead. Emily jumped down from the hospital bed. She changed into clothes and went home with her mom. Emily finished doing her homework that she missed when her mother told her. 'Emily, I just need to tell you something. You're a demi-god. You're real father is Zeus.' She told her the story of how they met.  “What? You mean as in Greek mythology right? That’s so dumb. It’s not real mom, it’s just a myth. And you tell me I’m bad in school.” Then came the next hellhound attack-

Emily woke with a start and yawned. What time is it? She rubbed her eyes looking for Tobias.
