There's no reason to be worked up.. is there? (Essie) CyaNW

Conrad was sitting on a slab of grey rock that flatly jutted out a little into the shallow waters. It was already dusk, but he had no intention of going back to camp. The ocean was a sparkling deep marine blue and soothing splashes of water gently crashing into the sand cleared his mind. The sun's dying rays shone over the horizon and tinted the sky, mingling azure blue with lavender.

He was gently maneuvering water around, airborne, in front of him, splitting, twisting and joining them together once again. The formations cast speckles of light like diamond, against the dark yet shallow waters. As always, he didn't move, or show any sign that it was he who was controlling it.

There's no reason to be worked up.. is there? (Essie) Kban2
Maria Weber

Somebody save me
Let your waters break right through
Somebody save me
I don't care how you do it
Just save, save
I've been waiting for you

Maria was walking along the beach, getting away from the chaos also known as the camp. She sighed it seemed like nowadays you couldn't find anywhere to talk quietly. Not noticing the boy at all, she turned to face the water. She smiled, she always had liked the water. Maybe it was just in her blood, but she couldn't ever get enough of it.

She stared at the shapes in wonder. She couldn't do that, but then again, she only had one power with water, and that was healing herself. She looked around to see who was. The beach was empty except for that boy, but he didn't look like he was at all. She furrowed her eyebrows. "Erm, hi." Maria did a slight awkward wave and mentally slapped herself for it.

Just save me, save me
I've made this whole world shine for you
Just save, save
Come on
I'm still waiting for you

Conrad felt a presence approach, a girl in fact. Another girl. He let the water slowly stream back into the sea, taking his time. Then he turned back, and looked at the girl with his intense grey eyes. "Hello."

Maria looked at him. She the turned to look around the beach. "Was that you doing the cool stuff to the water?" she asked curiously, smiling as she raised in eyebrow. Maria had never met someone who could do that, maybe he was the son of Poseidon too? That would be sad sort of, he was cute in a way.

Conrad regarded the girl for a few seconds, then smiled back lightly and replied, "Yeah, it was me." Even without reading her mind, he knew what she must be thinking: And it was an easy mistake to make, anyone would jump to that conclusion. But he didn't elaborate. After all, he thought wryly, she didn't ask.

Maria looked at the boy, realizing that neither knew each others names. "I'm Maria." she said to the boy. She bit her lip for a second. "How did you...?" she trailed off the question. She didn't want to seem like she was prying. Some campers took everything into offense. If she asked a question she was blown up on. It was sometimes quite rediculous. She looked over at the waves in the beach again. She wished she had her surfboard, it would be like old times to her, she loved water. It made sense she guessed. Even without her godly parent she bet she would still love the water.

"How did I just do that?" Conrad finished her question quietly, then proceeded to reply,"Children of Poseidon aren't the only ones with control over water." He smiled, amused. "It's still a form of matter, and telekinesis covers matter, I believe." Pausing, he glanced up at the sky to see if the moon was out yet, then introduced himself, as it seemed prudent to, since Maria had already done so.

"I'm Conrad, Cabin 6."

Maria smiled at Conrad. "Obviously not." she said. She continued looking out at the small rolling waves. She sighed, finally realizing that he didn't know who she was the daughter of. It wasn't that hard to figure out however. "Cabin 3." she said smiling, still lookin out at the beach. "So what brings you here?" she asked Conrad, most of the time the answer was obvious. Quiet. Peace. Being away from other campers, or getting out of training.

"Probably the same reason you came here," Conrad stated, watching as the clouds obscured the moon, yet the sun hadn't fully set. It was a waning crescent that night, but he was waiting for the full moon, which was due in exactly a week's time. He glanced back at the gently crashing waves, seeing both the moon's and fading sun's reflections. It was exceptionally peaceful that evening.

She sat in silence, just looking out at the waves when her mind drifted to Hawaii. She sighed, remembering her wipeout. Then she remembered the small moment of perfect silence. She hadn't registered the fact that during that she couldve died. If she didn't have her one small power, Maria would he dead. She rushed the idea out of her mind. She looked over at Conrad. "It's really pretty at night isn't it?" she asked. She gave a smile. Maria wondered if she was being weird.

Conrad briefly glanced up at the horizon. The sky was slowly turning a deep hue of indigo, and partial constellations were on the brink of appearing. "Nothing I haven't seen before." He said, sweeping his gaze over the ocean that occasionally glittered with moonlight.

He wasn't used to saying much, and it was typical for him to be this distant, until he was sure the person was worth his trust. Yet he never trusted anyone completely. It just wasn't in his nature. He was better operating solo.

"You dont say much do you?" she asked. Maria moved her eyes back towards Conrad. "Sometimes things are better said in silence." she said quietly. She studied Conrad. He was hard for her to understand, but she could gather that he didn't like talking. She didn't want to judge him based on five minutes with the guy, so she didn't. Maria simply sat her fingers messing with the sand.

"I don't say unnecessary things." He corrected her with a light smile. Conrad's gaze didn't move from the sea, but he knew she was looking at him, trying to figure him out. Admittedly, he was rather mysterious, and a little confusing in fact, to those who did not know him well, or at least his half-brother told him so.

"At least... I don't spout gibberish. Not around people I barely know." He didn't mean it as an insult to her, nor 'dissing' her in any way. He said it factually, for it was the truth. And, he was surprised to notice, that he actually wouldn't mind interacting more with someone for once. Maria seemed different in a way, not like other girls, rude, flirty, stuck-up or feather-headed.

Maria gave him a smile. "That's sensible." she admitted. Maria smiled at him. She let his comment roll of of her shoulders. It didn't really bother her. She could point out something that might start a conversation though. "If you don't say much to people you don't know, then how do you get to know people?" she asked, raising an eyebrow towards him. Maria did have her moments once in a while. "I mean, like, maybe that's point of it all but..." she trailed off, keeping her thoughts to herself as she looked back out at the waves.

He let out a light chortle, turning back to look at the girl. "Probably like that," Conrad said, referring to her question. "Or when I find a person interesting enough to talk to." He held back, stopping short of saying his powers. Of course, he could simply mind-read others, as he did so with most mortals around him when he ventured out of camp. There was a very slim chance he would actually befriend them, so it didn't bother him much invading their privacy. Since it didn't hurt them, but if he didn't open his mind to his surroundings, Greek creatures could always catch him unawares. Not that he was ever not alert.

However, Conrad didn't usually read the minds of demigods, for those with mind-related powers could sense him, and he wasn't looking for a fight. And as much as he could slip through, undetected, skimming the surface thoughts of others, if anyone found out about what he could do, they'd most probably keep a distance away from him. Not that, he thought wryly, it would make a difference whether or not I can mind-read them.
