Son of Hermes

Clay was sitting in a tree by the beach. He had meant to take a decent nap there, somewhere that was shielded from most demigods. A soft summer breeze flew around his face, cooling him even more than the leaves did. Clay didn't want to be found, not now. He had enough of the crowded cabin 11, where everyone was happy and running around the rooms. The demigod shook his head and leaned against the bark of the tree. Pulling his shades over his eyes, Clay tried to drift off into a sleep.

In his sleep, light yet still sleep, he had a dream. In the dream, Clay was walking along the beach with his brother. Smiling at the memory, the demigod didn't dare wake up from his dream. Just seeing his brother was a miracle for him. The dream continued and it was very regular. It seemed like Cole had never left, only gone on vacation or something. Then a strange thing happened, Clay's brother waved goodbye and stopped the conversation. Cole pointed at the watch on Clay's hand, as if saying something was running out of time. Did someone need him? With a start, the demigod awoke from his dream, and slipped off the limb he was perched on.

Having a face-full of sand wasn't exactly on Clay's to-do-list, but he got it anyways. Coughing, he got up and brushed himself off. He scanned his blue shirt, jeans, and tennis shoes for any sand. Clay shook his head and looked up, noticing he feel next to someone. Oops. "Erm, sorry." he said quickly.

oddly enough, danny was spending a lot more time than she intended at the beach. To her it was a place where she could get away, a place where she could relax and not have to worry about hammering migraines but lately she had been running into more and more people there and a lot of times, things didn't end very well. It didn't really help that Danny sort of maybe caused most of the yelling. It really wasn't much of her fault that she had anger issues. It might have just been bad genes. She couldn't really tell being the fact that she had no idea who her parents were, let along if they had anger issues.

That day the beach had been fairly vacant with not too many people around. She found that it was a better time to come than any other because not many people actually came. It was summer though, so who knew when some crazy teenagers would come and wreck her peace and decide to laugh and giggle in the waves. Danny never really liked how her generation acted. She was very old fashioned, she sometimes wondered if there was an old women trapped in her teenage body.

Finding the beach as empty as she thought it was going to get, Danny settled down in the sand, leaning against a tree out looking the waves. She found it quite odd how she had been at camp since November and spent a lot of her time by the beach, but she has never really gone into the ocean.

Danny stayed like this for a while, looking out at the ocean, not paying much attention to anything else. She thought maybe she was finally at peace after a long day, but her luck was not great that day. Out of completely no where, a boy fell from the sky making Danny let out a quick and short shriek of surprise. "Where the hell did you come from?" she asked, ignoring his apology entirely.

Clay frowned and almost rolled his eyes at the girl. Almost. It took a lot of will power on his part not too. The demigod didn't take insults lightly, even one that was quickly thought out and just happened. Clay didn't care, he wasn't the type of person to hold it against someone, but today, it stung. "A tree, smarts." he said bitterly. Clay was going to say something more amusing, like "Well that's a long story, but when Hermes saw my mom...", but he wasn't in the mood for that.

After saying those words, he felt bad. That was the thing about Clay, he could never say something bad. It hurt him too much, even if the other person wouldn't care what he said. The thought of hurting someone's feelings made him miserable. "You're fine, er - right?" he asked. The demigod felt bad if she got hurt in the process, even if she had snapped at him. In Clay's mind, he had deserved it. Shutting his eyes, the boy ran a hand through his hair, feeling a little bit of gel still stuck in it. He knew that his tough guy act wasn't really working, not if he was apologizing. The demigod confused himself a lot; trying to be someone he knew that he could never be.

Clay sighed and sat down by the girl, if she wanted him to or not. There wasn't a doubt in his mind that told him sitting by the girl was a bad idea, but he didn't care. The demigod was several inches away from her, which was enough for a knife to fit in. Clay would know, he always had his blade on him, even if it was slightly shorter than the distance between the two demigods. His hazel eyes wandered to the shoreline of the beach, several feet away. He realized that he had no desire to go into the water, just to rest in the plants that covered it.

danny almost stood up and left at his first comment. Not only was that something she got a lot because of her linage, but it was a pointedly bitter and almost set her over the edge. The smallest things could do that to her; she didn't know if it was particularly a bad thing, but she knew anger issues weren't really good. It probably would help her in battle but as far as she could remember, she hadn't battled any monsters in her lifetime. Although, showing up at camp in the condition she had been, she may have brawled a few creatures that hadn't been too fond of her. Either way, she didn't remember.

She was about to come up with some sort of retort for him, but he had said something else, maybe in a tone less bitter and annoyed. She narrowed her eyes as he took a seat next to her, but it seemed a simple enough gesture for her not to care. "I'm fine. Um, thank you." Danny didn't get why she was being as polite as she was, especially after the way he had acted. It was probably in her blood or something. Ever since her arrival at camp she tried using what she would do self-consciously as clues about her past.

Danny's eyes slowly left the boy and went back to the water. "In my own defense, however, you were hidden fairly well, seeming to literally fall from the sky." She said this with narrowed eyes and pursed lips. She hoped he knew she wasn't leaving. She had been comfortable up until the point of his arrival. There wasn't anyone who could change her mind then.
